TE All-Call Text Message Alerts

Beginning in November 2016, the T/E School District will offer the option for parents to receive a text message alert when there is an emergency announcement from TE All-Call, the District's mass communication system. All parent/guardian mobile numbers in the TE All-Call system will receive an opt-in text invitation on or around November 17th. Please note that the opt-in text invitation will only be received on mobile phone numbers that are in the TE All-Call system. Parents of students attending T/E schools may contact the main office of their child's school to make changes to their TE All-Call phone numbers. Parents of students attending non-public schools, but who are transported by T/E buses, may contact the T/E School District Information Services Department at (610) 240-1947 to make changes to their TE All-Call phone numbers.

Frequently Asked Questions:

1. How do I sign up to receive TE All-Call text messages?
As long as your mobile number is on file for your child in the TE All-Call system, you will receive text on or around November 17th asking if you would like to opt-in to receive text message alerts from SchoolMessenger, the company that provides our TE All-Call service. The text invitation will instruct you to text “Y” to a specific number to opt-in. If you do not want to receive TE All-Call text alerts, then you do not need to respond to the invitation text.

2. How do I add a new number or change my phone number in TE All-Call?

3. Will I still receive a phone call if I opt-in to receive text message alerts when there is a TE All-Call alert?
Yes. The TE All-Call system will call all phone numbers in the system when there is an emergency alert. The system will also send an SMS, or text message, to any numbers that have opted in to receive texts.

4. What if I change my mobile number after the initial opt-in invitation has been sent? Will I still be able to sign up to receive text messages from TE All-Call?
Yes. Any new mobile numbers added to the TE All-Call system after November 17th will receive an auto-generated text with instructions on how to opt-in to receive text messages. If you do not receive this automated text after 2 business days, please contact your child’s school to make sure that the correct mobile number is in the TE All-Call system. Parents of non-public school students who are transported by T/E School District buses may contact the T/E School District Information Services Department at (610) 240-1947 to change their TE All-Call phone numbers.

You may also opt-in to receive emergency text message alerts by texting Y to 67587. Please note that the mobile phone from which you are opting in MUST already be in the TE All-Call system for you to receive text messages. You may still receive an initial confirmation message from SchoolMessenger, the vendor that provides our TE All-Call service, even if your number is not in TE All-Call, but you will not receive actual emergency text alerts unless your number is on file in the TE All-Call system.

5. I would rather not receive a phone call at 5:00 am when there is a school closing since I am going to be receiving text messages now. Can I opt out of receiving the early morning phone calls?
While you may request to be put on our Do Not Call List, doing so will mean that you will not receive any emergency notification calls from TE All-Call, including calls that may happen during the school day or during the evening. Some parents have stated that they plan to turn cell phones off or turn home phone ringers down on snow days if they do not want to receive the early morning call.

6. How do I opt-out of receiving text messages after I have opted in?
You may opt-out of receiving text messages at any time by replying to one of our text messages with “STOP”.

7. Can anyone sign up to receive text messages from TE All-Call?
No. Only phone numbers in our student TE All-Call system will be eligible to receive text messages when there is an emergency notification. Any number changes or additions must be made by calling your child’s school. For individuals who do not have students in T/E schools or who do have children transported by T/E buses, the District also shares emergency closing information on the T/E School District website, www.tesd.net, on local TV and radio stations, on TETV, and on the T/E Information Hotline at (610) 240-1970.

8. Once I call my child’s school to add a new mobile number, will I automatically begin receiving text messages when there is an emergency alert?
No. By law, you must opt-in to receive text message alerts from your mobile phone. After changing or adding a new mobile number in TE All-Call, you should receive an automated text from SchoolMessenger with instructions on how to opt-in to receive text message alerts on your phone.

9. I deleted the text inviting me to opt-in to receive emergency alert text messages on my mobile phone. How do I opt-in to receive text message alerts without the text invitation?
You may opt-in to receive emergency text message alerts by texting Y to 67587.

10. What does it mean if I texted Y and I received some sort of error message back?
If you receive what appears to be an error message, it most likely means that shortcode text messaging is not enabled on your wireless subscription plan. This does not mean that your wireless provider cannot receive text messages from SchoolMessenger. Rather it means that the specific mobile device does not have shortcode SMS texting enabled for that number (this is sometimes disabled by default on company-provided cell phones). To address this, contact your wireless provider and request that shortcode messaging be enabled. SchoolMessenger indicated that this seems to happen most often with some older wireless plans.
