Valley Forge Grade School is Opened

The new Valley Forge School, located in Tredyffrin Twp., opened with an enrollment of approximately 300, according to a report given at a meeting of the Tredyffrin-Easttown Elementary School Board.
Meeting in the new Devon School, the board heard a report that John Reilly, acting principal of the new school, and faculty members began a three-day period of orientation on Feb. 5.
Friday afternoon, pupils transferring from the Strafford and Paoli Schools were transported to the Valley Forge School. The pupils were shown the classrooms they would occupy and introduced to the teachers.
SMOOTH OPENING
The actual opening of school was accomplished very smoothly, and, as one observer was heard to say "One would think the school had been in operation all year."
An "Open House" will be planned for early spring to provide opportunity for all residents of the community to tour the new building, the fifth of the elementary schools in the Tredyffrin-Easttown area.
Culminating an afternoon of classroom visitations, members of the Board of Education and the administrative staff enjoyed dinner in the cafeteria of the new Devon School, just before the regular meeting.
Divided into two groups during the afternoon, one going to the Strafford and Devon Schools and one the Berwyn and Paoli Schools, members of the Board visited various grades and observed classes in action.
TRANSPORTATION PROGRAM
Operation of the transportation system at the close of the school day was observed first hand, as well as the after school sports program.
Members of the Board taking part in this visitation program, planned by the Education Committee, expressed keen interest in the activities of the day and expectation that this is but the first of a regular series of such opportunities to observe the day-by-day operation of the educational program.
A representative of the Easttown Board reported on the last meeting of the Operating Committee of the Paoli Area High School System. Use of the Devon School as a polling place for Easttown Twp. was approved.
The Tredyffrin Board announced the employment at the January meeting of Main and Co. of Philadelphia, certified public accountants, to perform the annual audit of Tredyffrin School District accounts. This will also entail auditing the accounts of the elementary jointure inasmuch as the treasurer of the Tredyffrin School Board is the Treasurer of the Joint Board.
Faculty members appointed to teach in the Valley Forge School for the rest of the school year included: Mrs. Audrey Rupp, of Strafford; Mrs. Arline Buecker, of Wayne; Mrs. Bertha Niklaus, of Berwyn; and Mrs. Roberta Haas, of Moscow, PA.
Mrs. Nancy Corkhill, Mrs. Eva Harrington, and Mrs. Lorraine Lockrem were approved as substitute teachers for the elementary schools.
The Tredyffrin and Easttown Boards met separately after the joint meeting to consider routine business.
Final inspection of the Valley Forge School will be made on Saturday morning, Feb. 22, beginning at 9:30.
The next regular meeting of the elementary boards will be held in the Administration building at 7:30, on March 11.
