Summer Reading Lists for incoming 5th-8th grade students are now available!

Summer Reading Reading is at the heart of any successful school program. Students who have access to books and spend time reading instead of watching TV are more likely to be good readers. Research findings from the National Assessment of Educational Progress correlate required reading with higher reading performances and better vocabulary.

Students entering Fifth and Sixth Grades
To emphasize the importance of reading, students at Valley Forge Middle School are required to read at least two books over the summer. One book should be chosen from the list, while the other may be a free choice (either from the list or another source).

For students who receive reading support, a list of recommended books will be given by the reading teacher.

Please help your child select books that are new to their reading experience, challenging, and interesting to him or her. You are also encouraged to read the books with your child, discuss them, and share your reactions. We know that the more children read the better readers they become. Summer is a wonderful time to relax, and a wonderful time to get lost in a fabulous story. On the beach, in the car ride, on the patio – bring some books! We hope that choosing and reading these books will enhance your child’s enjoyment of reading as well as build reading skills.
