This is a folder provided to your child every school year. It is used for sending in notes, sending home assignments and important notices. Your child's job is to make sure they take all notes and assignments home each night and check for notes and assignments each morning. Your job is to go through the folder EVERY night and remove anything that does not need to be in there. If it gets lost, please let me know. We have replacements.
I have separate page that reviews my homework expectations. Here is a brief summary.
Read for 15 minutes each night.
Spelling homework goes home on Mondays and is due back on Fridays.
Math homework goes home on Mondays and Wednesdays and is due back on Fridays.
Reading homework begins later in the year. Once it starts, it goes home on Mondays and is due back on Fridays.
Projects come home when assigned. Many times these are also posted on my webpage.
Spelling lists come home on Mondays with the spelling homework. The spelling skill is identified at the top of the list. All spelling lists are also posted on https://www.spellingcity.com/users/vfes1. A direct link to the spelling city list for the week is posted on my welcome page www.tesd.net/mrsmccann at the beginning of the week. Spelling city is also an excellent resource for additional home spelling practice.
Spelling tests are on Fridays. A spelling test journal will come home on the Monday after the test for you to sign and return on Tuesday.
A classroom schedule goes home at the beginning of the school year. This is also available on my webpage.
We have an afternoon snack time. Students may only enjoy peanuts and snacks containing peanut products in the cafeteria at lunch. These should not be packed for afternoon snacks that are eaten in the classroom and/or on the playground.
Food may not be sent in to celebrate. Please visit my webpage for a complete list of ways for your child to celebrate their birthday with us. Feel free to email me with any questions.
We use headphones for the listening station, computers, and ipads. The children use these on a daily basis and will not be able to participate if they do not have them. We do not provide headphones for students to share because of lice. If you are unable to provide your child with headphones due to financial reasons, please contact our school counselor.
I have a copy of all PIN numbers accessible for the children to use. If you email me in advance, or have your child tell me when they order, I can help them. We also send these home the first week of school. It is helpful for your child to memorize their PIN number.
Many of the activities we do in class are hands-on and interactive. These are more difficult to send home, however they are much more engaging for the students. I keep all formal writing assignments in a portfolio until the end of the year. Homework is checked and kept until the end of the marking period. It does not get returned.How do I know a math test is coming soon?A review will come home a day or two before the next math test.
Please sign and return the math tests after reviewing any incorrect problems with your child. I keep these in your child's math file to use for grading, conferencing, and to pass to the new math teacher once we switch.
Flexible grouping within the core classroom is used to accomoadate for various math abilities. Students may begin switching for math later in the year.
A link to the spelling list is posted weekly on my webpage. Please tell your child to ask for another copy of any worksheets that they may need to return. You may want to follow-up with an email.
Please email me if this is happening regularly. We can work out a solution that is in the best interest of your child. If it is just on one assignment, please let me know and I can review that specific skill individually with your child.
Email me! I will answer them as best as I can. If you prefer a phone call in return, please indicate the best number to reach you and a good time to call. Communication is very important to me. Never feel that you are bothering me - Just be patient and realize I may need a little time to respond. Email is the best way to communicate with me.
