Athletic Fields Project

In May 2021, the Tredyffrin/Easttown Board of School Directors reviewed an athletic field study that highlighted the District's increased athletic field demands, the current use of off-site facilities, traffic challenges, transportation costs related to off-site fields, and the fields that are used at surrounding schools. With the acquisition of the nursery property adjacent to Conestoga High School, the District has an opportunity to add to its field inventory and provide additional benefits to the school community:

  • Maximize the teams that can play and practice onsite
  • Reduce the need (and cost) for busing
  • Minimize the number of evening events
  • Increase access to community groups

Project Updates

September 24, 2025

New Turf Field Now Open

Conestoga High School officially opened a new turf field on Wednesday, September 24. School District officials were joined by student-athletes in a ribbon-cutting ceremony to mark the occasion, after which our state championship field hockey team took the field for practice. In the coming weeks and months, we will open an additional turf field, a softball field, 5 tennis courts, and a resurfaced track.

The athletic fields project at large is still in progress. While one turf field is now open for school events only, the rest of the site, including the track, remains an active construction site. Any unauthorized entry into the site, including the track, may be unsafe or cause project delays.

Construction on the Conestoga High School athletic fields project is moving forward with several key milestones achieved this month. Turf Field 2 is now complete, with ball-stopper netting and fencing installation coming soon. Turf Field 1 is advancing with its stone base, retaining wall, and bleacher foundations underway. The tennis court subbase has been installed, and surfacing will begin shortly. The track subbase is finished, with surfacing nearing completion. Internal roadways and sidewalks have been laid in most areas, and highway occupancy permit work has started along Old State Road, Irish Road, and Cassatt Road. Construction of the fieldhouse, as well as the grounds and fields building, is progressing with active blockwork. Finally, site utilities have been fully installed.

Spring 2025

  • After the School Board approved construction bids in the summer of 2024, work began on key infrastructure, including temporary roads, stormwater management, and utility installation.
  • The project remains on track and is expected to be completed in the 2025 calendar year.
Summer 2024

  • The tree removal and existing building demolition on the site were completed in May 2024 with the low bid/quote contractor.
  • The public bids were reviewed, and the recommended bidders were Board-approved in July.  The notices to proceed to the contractors were issued in August. Site work and construction of the fields, fieldhouse and grounds building will begin this fall.
  • The anticipated completion of the fields and buildings is in the fall and winter of 2025, respectively

Background

At its October 25, 2021 regular meeting, the T/E School Board received a presentation on a field study for athletic facilities. Since the District acquired the nursery property adjacent to Conestoga High School, there have been discussions about using that land for athletic fields. The October 25th presentation outlined:
  • Aspects of the field study that have been completed to date
  • Goals of the field study
  • Field study assumptions
  • Background information on current athletic teams and current field usage
  • Field study survey of surrounding school districts
  • Site plans and two options to address the identified needs

Community Feedback on the TESD Field Plan
The School Board hosted a community open house on December 14, 2021 to provide community members with an opportunity to learn more and provide input about the District's nursery field plan. The Board values community feedback and has established an inbox that members of the public may use to submit comments on the District's field plan. Please email comments to TESDFieldPlan@tesd.net. All feedback received in the field plan inbox will be shared with the School Board.
