Emergency Closing Day Plan for 2021-2022 School Year

On September 27, 2021, the Tredyffrin/Easttown School Board approved a revised 2021-2022 school year calendar and a plan for days when emergency situations prevent the opening of school buildings. The emergency closing day plan includes primarily emergency virtual days, with one traditional snow day reserved for the first winter weather closure of the year. Click here for a single page summary of the 2021-2022 school year calendar. 

Emergency Closing Day Plan for the 2021-2022 School Year:

  • Day 1: Emergency Virtual Day – September 2, 2021 (Hurricane Ida)
  • Day 2: Traditional Snow Day - to be made up on June 15, 2022. The District reserves the right to use an emergency virtual day for Day 2 if school buildings need to be closed for a reason other than snow.
  • Days 3+: Emergency Virtual Day

Typical Emergency Virtual Day Schedule

Cycle days will advance as usual on emergency virtual days; however, students will follow a modified class schedule with a combination of synchronous and asynchronous instruction. All students will begin the emergency virtual day by logging into Schoology by 9:30 AM for attendance.

Kindergarten Schedule:

Kindergarten students will meet for one, 30-minute live synchronous session for language arts or math:

9:30 AM - 10:00 AM: AM kindergarten language arts or math

1:00 PM - 1:30 PM: PM kindergarten language arts or math

Asynchronous work may be completed as needed during the remainder of the school day.

Elementary School Schedule (Grades 1-4):

The elementary schedule will include two, 30-minute live, synchronous sessions for language arts and math:

9:30 AM – 10:00 AM: language arts 

10:15 AM – 10:45 AM: math 

Special areas and support teachers will post learning activities for the classes they would have had during the regular school day on the six-day cycle.

Asynchronous work may be completed as needed during the remainder of the school day.

Middle/High School Schedule:

Middle and high school teachers will post assignments in Schoology between 7:25 AM – 9:00 AM and classes will meet synchronously on a modified schedule through Microsoft Teams:

1st Period:    9:30 AM – 9:50 AM

2nd Period:   10:00 AM – 10:20 AM

3rd Period:   10:30 AM – 10:50 AM

4th Period:   11:00 AM – 11:20 AM

Lunch Break

5th Period:   12:00 PM – 12:20 PM

6th Period:   12:30 PM – 12:50 PM

7th Period:   1:00 PM – 1:20 PM

8th Period:   1:30 PM – 1:50 PM

 

2:00 PM – 3:00 PM: Asynchronous work as needed

Frequently Asked Questions

What if my child needs assistance or has a question about an assignment during an emergency virtual day?

All teachers will be available during the school day to support students and families through email and Schoology.

What if my family has an individual circumstance that prevents my child from being able to complete schoolwork during an emergency virtual day?

If any student cannot complete the day’s assignments due to an individual family circumstance, please email your school’s attendance inbox to report your child as absent.

What if there are widespread power outages during an emergency virtual day and my child cannot log into Schoology or Microsoft Teams?

In the event of widespread power outages throughout the District, TESD may determine that an emergency virtual day needs to become a traditional emergency closing day.

Do emergency virtual days need to be made up at the end of the school year like traditional emergency closing days?

No. Emergency virtual days are considered instructional days. Instructional days do not need to be made up at the end of the year.
