School Board Adopts Resolution on New Elementary School, Full-Day Kindergarten and STEM Special

At the May 28, 2024 Regular School Board Meeting, the Board adopted a resolution approving a new K-4 elementary school, full-day kindergarten and a new Science, Technology, Engineering and Math (STEM) special. In addition, TESD Superintendent of Schools Dr. Richard Gusick presented an overview of the work leading up to the launch of the new elementary school.

On April 2, 2024, TESD became the owner of a 15-acre property located at 1200 West Swedesford Road in Berwyn and the existing building on the property will be adaptively reused for the purpose of a sixth elementary school. The projected opening date for the new elementary school is August 2027. Additional details about the process that led to the decision to open a sixth elementary school are available at www.tesd.net/enrollment.

For the next three years, TESD staff will be working diligently with the School Board and community to prepare for the successful launch of the new school. The District will focus on nine areas in preparation for the opening of the school in August 2027: construction, financing, Elementary Blueprint for Instruction, redistricting, special education, staffing, safety & security, equity and transportation. Additional details for each area of focus, as well as preliminary timelines, are available in the presentation slides from the May 28, 2024 School Board meeting.

The District has established a web page for the new elementary school project: www.tesd.net/newelementaryschool. This web page will be expanded in the coming months as TESD moves forward with the new elementary school project. Throughout this process, the District remains committed to open communication and ongoing collaboration with families, staff and community members. The District encourages community members to stay engaged in the process as we work together to provide the best possible educational experience for all TESD students and families.
