World Kindness Day at Hillside
November 13th was Kindness Day, and Hillside celebrated throughout the day! Karen Kilby, school counselor, designed a number of activities for students to display kindness—the act of doing something positive or good with no expectation of getting something in return! No act of kindness is too small!
Some of the opportunities include:
- A compliment booth to start the day and the option to share a kindness note with others
- A short video on the science of kindness at lunch followed by a short discussion on how to be kind at lunch and recess
- An opportunity to use chalk to create messages of kindness on playground
- An end of day announcement to reflect on their actions and feelings, and then challenge them to do more at home with their families
For all of us, the power of kindness cannot be overstated to our children. This article can be very helpful in recognizing how often we underestimate the acts of kindness we share with others. This article is a perfect reflection on World Kindness Day for grown-ups too!
