Danielle Sculley-Ellett Named Citadel Heart of Learning Award Finalist
Conestoga High School teacher Danielle Sculley-Ellett was selected as the Citadel Heart of Learning Award Finalist for the T/E School District. Danielle received the news during a surprise visit from the Chester County Intermediate Unit (CCIU) and Citadel Bank at a faculty meeting, where, surrounded by her colleagues, she was presented with her award. The Citadel Heart of Learning Program was developed by Citadel and the CCIU in 2001 to recognize, reward and thank outstanding teachers in Chester County. Citadel receives thousands of nominations every year for more than 1,200 teachers. The 15 finalists, one from each district in Chester County, in addition to a CCIU teacher and a non-public school teacher, were recognized at an awards banquet on May 7, 2019. Danielle was one of thirty-eight T/E teachers nominated for the award.
Danielle started teaching in the T/E School District in 2000 and taught social studies until 2014 at Conestoga High School. Currently, she serves as a multi-tiered intervention teacher at Conestoga as part of the District’s Multi-tiered Intervention Program, which provides different levels of intervention for students in the regular education curriculum, in addition to providing support for students returning to Conestoga High School from outside placements. Danielle also has a degree in secondary school counseling. She states, “MI (multitiered intervention) was a perfect place for me to utilize both my certifications as a counselor and a teacher.”
Danielle is not only an educator, but a mentor and advisor to students. "She always puts herself before others. She is very confident and courageous and wants everyone around her to succeed. At times, she may be tough but always has your best interest," remarked one of her students. When asked what advice she would give to young people considering the teaching profession, Danielle stated, “My advice for teachers entering the profession today is that they should never forget that they are teaching human beings first and content second. If a teacher can make a student feel like he or she is a valuable human being, then the stage is set for everything else to come.”
The T/E School District congratulates Danielle on this outstanding recognition and thanks the school community for nominating teachers for the Citadel Heart of Learning Award.
