  • Academic Competition (Grades 7, 8)

    Knowledge Bowl is an academic competition open to 7th and 8th grade students at TEMS. Tryout for the teams occur during the month of January. Each grade will take a single team of 8 students. Teams will practice on a weekly basis from January until the competition at the end of April. The competition, sponsored by the Chester County Intermediate Unit, includes up to 33 local middle school teams. This is a wonderful opportunity for any student interested in trivia or Jeopardy.

     

    Art Club AND Flower Show Club (Grades 7, 8)

    5th and 6th graders meet on Tuesdays for Art Club. 7th and 8th graders meet on Wednesdays for Art Club.  Students in grades 5-8 participating in Flower Show Club meet Thursdays.  All meetings are in room 152.

    Bulldog Ambassadors (Grades 7, 8)

    The T/E Middle School Bulldog Ambassador Program is comprised of selected 7th and 8th grade students who participate in various school and community projects. Our Ambassadors are available to assist parents during Curriculum Night and Parent Conferences. Ambassadors mentor new students and help them to adapt to our school. In the spring, the Ambassadors take the 4th grade elementary school students through a tour of our building during their move up day. Then, in September, the Ambassadors assist the 5th graders in the halls. Ambassadors are also trained in peer mediation and may be called upon to help students resolve their differences. 

     

    Coding, Engineering and Design Club **Currently FULL**

    When: Tuesdays or Thursdays

    Time: After school 3:10-4, pickup at 4pm (Main entrance)

    Where: 122A

    Grade Levels: 6-8

    This club is an opportunity for students to learn about various kinds of coding languages, technologies, engineering, and design work throughout the year. Students will have an opportunity to learn and explore coding and programming in a variety of coding languages that they find interesting themselves, as well as physical computing with robotics. Students are encouraged to lead learning/training sessions. Students will have an opportunity to learn about cyber security and compete in coding/design contests, such as picoCTF and the Chester County Media and Design Competition. Engineering will be explored through building and racing CO2 dragsters. Students will also have an opportunity to use technology and machines to create and design with 3D printers, laser cutters, vinyl cutters and machinery to solve problems and pursue personal interests. Topics will rotate throughout the year.

    Drama Club (Grades 5, 6, 7, 8)

    Start Date: TBA

    Sponsor - Mrs. Kirsten Bortz and Mrs. Ashley Way

    The drama production will be open to all grades 5 - 8 this year.  Students may choose to audition for the cast, or join the production stage crew, which will handle scene changes of set pieces and props. Students may also opt to assist in other areas of the production process, including set and prop building/creation, painting, and costuming. 

     

    GSA Club

    Start Date: October 1st  7:45-8:15 the 1st Friday of each month, Large Group Room

    Sponsors - Mrs. Maria Marano, Ms. Marguerite Gordon, Ms. Kristin Abell

    All students are welcome to join the GSA, a student-led club. We seek to provide a safe, inclusive, and accepting learning environment where students support one another. Meetings will be held the first Friday of each month, beginning October 1st, before school 7:45-8:15, in the Large Group Room 

     

    Intramural Sports (Grades 5 - 8)

    Monday – Thursday, 3:15 - 4:45 pm, Large Gym.  Start Date -  November Date TBD

    After school sports is a time where students can engage in sports/activities that promote sportsmanship, self-direction and collaboration. It takes place outside on the fields and in the large gym during inclement weather.

    Mathcounts (Grades 6, 7, 8)

    The 7th and 8th grade MATHCOUNTSClub meets once per week.. During our meetings, students work on problem solving strategies and skills. This year’s competition will be held virtually through the Art of Problem Solving website. There will be three practice competitions before the selection of the 15 students who will represent TEMS in February. There will be one additional online practice competition for the 15 team members before the Chapter Competition in February. The top scoring student from each school and the top 20% of individuals from each chapter advance to the 2021 Chapter Invitational Competition, taking place online February 25 at 7:00pm ET. The top 5 students from each chapter and the 10 next highest scoring students in the state advance to the 2021 State Compe­tition, taking place online March 25 at 7:00pm ET. There is no team round this year; students compete as individuals only. Parent permissions are required for the Art of Problem Solving website, and will be provided to students who join MATHCOUNTS.

    6th Grade Sponsor - Mrs. Jacqueline Patek

    MATHCOUNTS for sixth grade is a math competition team in which students will compete in groups of four at a one-time county competition. The competition will be on a Saturday in March. Practices will take place November through March for any interested students. Practice will be before or after school and will be determined by student availability.

    6th grader Mathcounts, please come to the practices with a pencil, paper and a folder to keep all handouts. Participants are expected to attend all meetings. If you are unable to attend a practice session or a test session, please let Mrs Patek know as soon as possible.

     

    Model U.N. (Grades 6, 7, 8)

    Start Date: October 12, 2020

    Sponsor - Mr. Hardy

    Jr. Model UN Club gives students an opportunity to learn about international relations and global issues, while teaching them skills in researching, writing, public speaking, and diplomacy. Members will have the opportunity to meet students from other schools in the Greater Philadelphia area during 3 different virtual conferences.     Multicultural Club (Grades 7 & 8)

    Meetings – In Room 206 / 2-3 Wednesdays per month during Activity periods

    The Multicultural Club is a space for people to enjoy learning about our own cultures and about each other's cultures.  We create fun and educational multicultural activities for TEMS students.  In the past, we have taken part in World Traditions Day, World Food Day, World Music Day, and the Cultural Museum.  Join us this year in sponsoring activities around various cultural heritage months and holidays.

     

    Music Groups – Band, Chorus, Orchestra (Grades 5, 6, 7, 8)

    TE Middle School offers a variety of music opportunities for students, including 5 Band, 6 Band, 7/8 Band, 5/6 String Orchestra, 7/8 Orchestra, 5 Chorus, 6 Chorus, 7/8 Chorus, 7/8 Cantabile, Jazz Band, and Jazz Ensemble. Students are invited to participate in multiple ensembles, if they desire. Ensemble rehearsals for all students take place before school, from 7:45 - 8:20 am. Students in Band, Orchestra, and Chorus have one small group sectional rehearsal each week in addition to the full-ensemble rehearsal. Band and Orchestra sectionals take place during the school day on a rotating schedule, and Chorus sectionals take place during students’ scheduled activity period.

     

    Reading Olympics (Grades 5, 6, 7, 8)

    Reading Olympics Club provides a unique opportunity for students in grades 5 through 8, who enjoy reading. Students will read and discuss books in teams.  Reading Olympics is a countywide reading event that encourages students to increase the quality and quantity of books they read for enjoyment.  The Reading Olympics Program is based upon the belief that good reading habits form the foundation for a productive and successful life. 

    We will meet on Tuesdays in Room #111

    Fall: 10/12 (interest meeting), 10/26, 11/9, 11/30, 12/14

    Red Cross Club

    Start Date:  Tuesday, November 30

    Weekly meetings: Tuesdays 3:10-3:55 in room 227 (Mr. Meade's room)

    The TEMS Red Cross Club is comprised of 7th and 8th grade students. The purpose of this club is to provide opportunities to make a difference by addressing our community’s greatest needs and developing leadership skills. TEMS Red Cross Club members plan and coordinate a minimum of three Red Cross service projects per year.

    Robotics Club (Grades – 7 & 8)

    Start Date: Monday, October 18, 2021

    Weekly Meetings: Mondays & Wednesdays – 3:15-4:45 in room 122A (October 2021 – May 2022)

    Members of 7th and 8th Grade Robotics Club access online curriculum and apply their new-found knowledge to robot design using VEX EDR parts and components. Club members work in teams to build robots ready for intra-club competition in the spring at TEMS. Participation in this club requires collaboration, problem solving, individual research, focus, dedication, and commitment. Regular attendance is required. Please note: TEMS Robotics will NOT participate in official VEX competitions during the 2021-2022 school year.

     

    Junior Robotics Club (Grades – 5 & 6)

    Start Date: Wednesday, October 20, 2021 (Approximately October – mid December 2021)

    Weekly Meetings: Tuesdays – 3:15-4:15 in room 205

    Members of 5th and 6th Grade Junior Robotics Club learn to build and operate robots using VEX IQ parts and components. Club members will compete in an intra-club competition at the end of the Jr. Robotics session. (Approximately 6 to 8 weeks.) Participation in this club requires collaboration, problem solving, focus, dedication, and commitment. Regular attendance is required. Please note: TEMS Jr. Robotics will NOT participate in official VEX competitions during the 2021-2022 school year.

      

    Science Olympiad Grades (6, 7, 8)

    Start Date: Oct. 7th; Weekly meetings Thursdays 3:10-3:55

    Science Olympiad is a Fall–Spring extra-curricular club dedicated to increasing students' interest in science, improving scientific reasoning, and developing thought processes through lab, test, and building activities. It requires teamwork, dedication, and commitment to meetings, as well as working on events independently outside of school.

    The club is open to 6th through 8th graders. In person meetings are after school on Thursdays from 3:10-3:55 in Room 211 (Mrs. Johnson's Room) and will beging Thursday, October 7th, 2021.  A calendar of meetings will be provided to the students and posted to the Science Olympiad Schoology group. Invitational Competitions are on Saturdays in January, the Regional and State Competitions are TBD.

     

    Student Council (Grades 6, 7, 8)

    Student Council is elected by the students of TEMS during Student council elections each May. The group includes a total of 19 students comprised of sixth, seventh and eighth graders. Our goal is to promote school spirit through spirit days and other school-related activities throughout the year.

     

    TV Studio (Grades 5, 6, 7, 8)

    Start Date: Monday, September 17; Monday – Friday, 7:45 - 8:37 am, TV Studio

    Sponsors - Mr. Keith Nunnelee and Mr. Richard Mattison

    The TEMS Bulldog TV Studio is an opportunity for 5th – 8th grade students to participate in a daily TV broadcast to the students and faculty during their homerooms. This group meets every morning at 7:15 am with a rotating schedule of students to work that day’s broadcast. Through this experience students will get to learn the on-camera and off-camera responsibilities during a TV broadcast on industry standard equipment. This experience will prepare students for continued work at Conestoga with their TETV program.

    This group will run for the length of the school year.

    Writing Club / School Newspaper (Grades 5, 6, 7, 8)

    Start Date: Tues. 10/5 and meets on Tuesdays, room 104, 3:20-4, join Schoology group if can't attend meetings

    The Writing Club is open to students of all grade levels who love to write stories and poems, conduct interviews, create puzzles, draw comics, and more! The submissions from this club are used to create our student newspaper, The Bulldog Press. Signed permission slips are needed to attend the club.
