The Caldecott Medal is awarded each year to an American illustrator for the "most distinguished" picture book each year. The award, started in 1938, is named in honor of Randolph Caldecott, the nineteenth century English illustrator.
The Newbery Medal is awarded each year for the "most distinguished writing" in a children"s book. Named for John Newbery, an eighteenth century English book seller, the medal is for American writers only and began in 1922.

New Eagle Elementary Library's Book Lending Policy
Kindergarten - 1 book per student for 1 week. The Kindergartner must return the book at the next library class if he/she wants to check out a different book.
First and Second Grades - 2 books per student for 1 week. If only 1 book is returned, the student may check out 1 different book at the next library class.
Third and Fourth Grades - 3 books per student for 2 weeks. If a student is assigned a project that requires additional sources, he/she may check out additional books to complete the assignment.
Citing sources or listing the book or web page where you found the answers to your research is necessary so that you properly give credit and acknowledge another person's work. Specific source citing for class projects will be included in your assignment. When you are taking notes for research also write down the information listed below from your source.
