As previously communicated, the T/E School District is currently following Chester County Health Department guidelines to remain in virtual instruction through October 9. We continue to look at October 12 as the first possible day to begin hybrid instruction for families who have selected this model. Our review, planning and communication will observe these important dates:
Week of September 21:
- Beginning of in-person instruction for identified students with IEP-driven needs
- Posting of relevant countywide COVID-19 data on the District website
- Posting of plan for phased transition to hybrid instruction
Week of September 28:
- School Board meeting to present transition plan on September 29
- Updating of relevant countywide COVID-19 data on the District website
- Individual schools will share orientation details, drop-off/pick-up information and reopening checklists with families as we get closer to the start of in-person instruction
Week of October 5:
- Updating of relevant countywide COVID-19 data on the District website
- Final decision regarding transitioning to hybrid instruction beginning October 12
Central to the timing of re-opening transition is the trajectory of local COVID-19 data. TESD continues to monitor this information to ensure that our schools remain safe to open. If at any time, appropriate thresholds cannot be met, we will extend the virtual learning program.
The District continues to work in cooperation with the Central League, District 1 and PIAA representatives to consider options for fall athletics.
When students return in-person, school will look different than it did last year. Some changes include:- Students and staff will need to complete daily symptom screening at home prior to coming to school buildings
- Students and staff will be required to wear face coverings (nose and mouth) on school grounds, at bus stops and on buses
- Social and physical distancing will be in place to the maximum extent possible in classrooms and common areas
- Students will be encouraged to participate in regular hand-washing throughout the school day
- There will be more individual work and limited movement around classrooms
- Students will eat lunch in assigned areas throughout the building, frequently including their classrooms
The District will be following the integrated model (blend of in-person and virtual instruction) presented publicly in August when we reopen our schools for in-person learning. Please visit the reopening section of the TESD website for details on the integrated instructional model. Families who selected all virtual instruction will continue with the virtual model until Thanksgiving Recess (November 24) at which time all families will have the opportunity to reconsider their selection.
TESD has created an inbox to receive comments and feedback on our virtual instruction program. Members of the school community may email comments to virtualfeedback@tesd.net. Feedback received through this inbox will be shared with the School Board and the TESD administrative team on a weekly basis.
We would like to recognize and thank families for their patience and partnership this fall as we work together to bring our students back to school safely.
